I think I decided on the Vertex skimmer | Reef2Reef
The vertex does take a while to break in, and may be producing more micro-bubbles than skimmate for a while. But once broken in it is very effective at pulling crap out of the water. I also usually look for a skimmer that has an external pump.

Some reactors, like the Vertex one in this video, has a recirculating line that draws the air back into the CO2 reaction chamber which eventually will make it out of the reactor. For my @geo reactor I used years ago, I would crack the lid slightly or pull the pH probe while feeding the reactor to help remove air.

I have a 90ga DT and a 30ga sump/fuge, I'm running a Vertex 130 skimmer and the thing is a beast. Tank is not crazy stocked, 1 yellow tang, 1 niger trigger, 1 carpenter wrasse, 2 clowns, 1 lawnmower blenny and 2 cardinals. All fish are on the smaller size, clean up crew is on the light side and have a mix of several corals soft and hard.
